About Making the Cut

Making the Cut is the industry’s first and only live hair styling competition, created and hosted by celebrity stylist Scott Fontana, owner of Cristophe Salon Newport Beach. Making the Cut is a high-end, professionally produced event that features live hair cutting and styling on stage performed by leading local stylists, a live hair and fashion show, and a renowned judging panel comprised of the beauty industry elite. The show is edgy, sexy and wildly entertaining. Making the Cut is currently in Orange County, CA, with plans to expand the event to markets throughout the country. 

Making the Cut History

Making the Cut made its debut in Spring 2013 in Orange County, CA, at Sutra Nightclub. With 200 attendees and five finalists, the inaugural show set the stage for the brand's exponential growth.

In 2014, Making the Cut returned to  Orange County, this time taking over The Observatory. With more than 500 people in attendance, six finalists, dozens of press features, and judging panel comprised of beauty industry elite, including founder and creator Scott Fontana, Laurent D. of Prive Salon, Leyla Milani of Milani Hair, and Raha Lewis of People Magazine. Jeremy Jackson, Hollywood actor and host, and former star of Baywatch, served as emcee of the evening.

2015 Making the Cut Hair Show

Making the Cut will return to Southern California in Spring 2015, this time at Raleigh Studios in Los Angeles. Check back for more details as applications open for stylists to enter.
